How We Calculate This

Scale factor = Desired Servings / Original Servings. Each ingredient is multiplied by the scale factor. Fractions are approximated to common cooking measurements (1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, 3/4).

How do I scale a recipe?

Divide desired servings by original servings to get the scale factor. Multiply each ingredient by this factor. For example, doubling a recipe means multiplying everything by 2.

Do all ingredients scale equally?

Most do, but some ingredients like spices, salt, leavening agents (baking powder/soda), and eggs may not scale linearly. Taste and adjust seasonings. For baking, precise scaling is more critical.

How do I convert measurements?

3 teaspoons = 1 tablespoon. 4 tablespoons = 1/4 cup. 16 tablespoons = 1 cup. 2 cups = 1 pint. 4 cups = 1 quart.

What about cooking time?

Cooking time does not scale linearly with quantity. Larger batches may need longer cooking times. Watch for doneness rather than relying solely on time.
