Cash Stack Visualiser

Example: €1M in €100s = 1.2m tall

This calculator shows the physical size of a cash amount in a selected denomination. It calculates stack height, total weight, and optionally the number of briefcases required. The estimates use official banknote dimensions; Europa series notes, for example, are approximately 0.12 mm thick.

How We Calculate This

Count = floor(Amount / Denomination). Stack height = Count × Note thickness. Mass = Count × Note mass. Briefcase volume considers note dimensions (length × width × thickness) with a packing efficiency factor. Data sources: ECB (Europa series), BEP (US bills), Bank of England (polymer notes).

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the note thickness data come from?

Euro banknote specifications come from the ECB and national central banks. Europa series notes are approximately 0.12mm thick. US bills are about 0.109mm thick. These are averages as actual thickness can vary slightly with wear and humidity.

How accurate is the briefcase calculation?

The briefcase calculation uses a simple volume model with adjustable packing efficiency (default 80%). Real-world packing depends on how notes are bundled and the exact briefcase dimensions. Consider it an estimate for fun rather than heist planning.

Why use single denominations?

Using a single denomination keeps the visualization simple and comparable. An "optimal mix" feature could minimize notes/coins, but that adds complexity. For most visualisation purposes, seeing "1 million in €100 notes" is more intuitive.

Can I add my own currency?

Currently EUR, USD, and GBP are supported. Each requires official dimensions and mass data. The assumptions section lets you override thickness and mass values if you have data for another currency.
